Update – Long Overdue
We have not updated Dylan’s Journey in quite some time, but now we must because Dylan has entered a new chapter. One we’ve all been through before, and hoped we would never go through again. You’ll recall he received his sister Darcie’s kidney on February 4, 2019. The transplant was successful and Dylan got back to a normal healthy life. Continuing his apprenticeship with the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and raising his two children. He continued his scheduled visits to Yale New Haven Hospital for regular testing and everything appeared to be fine. Then in December of 2021, after a serious bout of the flu, a scheduled biopsy showed that his autoimmune disease, IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) had returned.
His doctors started him on a regimen of steroids and anti-rejection medication to do what they could to control the disease. Throughout 2022 each monthly test showed falling numbers. Then beginning January of this year, his kidney function dropped precipitously three months in a row. He was called in to Yale New Haven and we’ve begun the Journey anew, and will be looking for another live donor.
We have many meetings and appointments over the next few weeks as we prepare to re-engage with Yale New Haven Transplant Center. We will have many more details to share in the coming weeks. Today we can share the living donor referral line for anyone out there that wants to be screened. That number is 1-866-925-3897. If you call, please mention that you are calling on behalf of Dylan McBeth
Stay tuned and keep Dylan and the entire McBeth family in your thoughts and prayers
Regards and God Bless,
Mark, Terri, Dylan, and Darcie
