New Chapter…Dialysis
Dylan has started a new chapter in his Journey – Dialysis. Hemodialysis is a treatment to filter waste and water from your blood. It helps control blood pressure and balance important minerals, such as potassium, sodium, and calcium in your blood. This is approximately a 4-hour procedure where the blood is pumped out of Dylan’s body to an artificial kidney machine and returned to his body by tubes that are connected to the machine. He has the treatment three times a week at the local DaVita Dialysis Center. In a month or so he will start training to be able to perform the treatment at home. In addition to dialysis, Dylan is on a medication regime for blood pressure, phosphorus levels, PPI, nausea, steroids to slow down IgAN, and anti-rejection. Pills are taken 1 to 3 times per day. This is a “new normal” that we are all adjusting to until a living donor is found.
